MasterClass in Scientific Innovation with Landspitali
A three-day innovation workshop for Landspítali employees and PhD students

Last week, Auðna Technology Transfer Office hosted a three-day MasterClass in scientific innovation for Landspítali staff and PhD students from both Reykjavik University and The University of Iceland. The course focused on the innovation journey and how research outcomes can be translated into real-world applications.
A Deep Dive into the Innovation Process
Participants gained insight into key elements of scientific innovation, including knowledge and technology transfer, intellectual property in MedTech and software, funding opportunities for research, and how to communicate ideas effectively to potential investors and partners.
Guest speakers brought a wide range of expertise to the table, offering valuable perspectives and practical advice. Among the presenters were Einar Stefánsson, ophthalmologist and founder of Oculis, Helga Valfells, co-founder of Crowberry Capital, and Guðmundur Reynaldsson, IP strategy expert.
Business Model Canvas, Teamwork and Pitching with Impact
Throughout the course, participants worked on their own projects using the Business Model Canvas as a foundation. They collaborated in teams under the guidance of experienced mentors, refining their ideas and preparing for final presentations.
To support the development of their pitches, they received a dedicated session on impactful presentation skills from Kjartan Þórsson, physician and founder of Prescriby, as well as performance coaching from actress María Ellingsen, who helped participants strengthen their stage presence and delivery.
On the final day, four ambitious and well-developed projects were presented to a panel of listeners. The pitches demonstrated originality, professionalism, and strong potential for further development.
At Auðna TTO Iceland, we’re grateful for the inspiring days spent with this talented group and excited to follow the continued growth of innovation within the healthcare sector!
